Cool Mist Humidifier – How to choose one for you!

Adding a humidifier to your nursery is an important step in promoting your baby’s overall health. After all, it only makes sense that you want your new baby breathing the highest quality of air into his precious little lungs. If the air in your nursery is too dry, which often occurs during cold weather when heating units are in use, it can cause problems for baby such as colds and respiratory infections. Cool Mist Humidifiers not only improve air quality and add moisture to dry air, but they can also keep baby safe from allergies, dry skin, swollen nasal passages and problems with asthma and sinuses. Humidifiers don’t take up a lot of space, come in different types for your preference and are relatively easy to clean and maintain. Humidifiers are an inexpensive addition that could provide excellent results for your baby’s health and quality of life.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Basically, humidifiers moisturize dry air. If the air in your nursery is not humid enough, it can cause a number of risks for baby. Air that is too dry can cause colds, sinus infections, nose bleeds or scratchy and sore throats. By running a humidifier in your baby’s nursery, you can help reduce bacteria and dust particles from the air, allow baby to enjoy cleaner air, decrease static electricity and even protect the interior of your home. Germs also spread more easily in drier air, which is definitely what you want to protect your baby from – especially during flu season.

Humidifiers are stand-alone units that work in a very simple process. Water is placed in a holding tank within the unit that feeds to a filter. When the water passes through the filter, it is separated into a mist and a fan blows the mist into the air and it circulates throughout the room, increasing the overall humidity.

So how humid should your nursery be? The optimal level of humidity is between 30% and 50% for overall healthy air. You can monitor the level of humidity that your humidifier is producing by purchasing an inexpensive humidity gauge called a hygrometer. If the hygrometer is reading humidity levels below 30%, you want to increase the moisture. However, humidity levels above 50% can be just as unhealthy, promoting the growth of mold, bacteria, fungi and dust mites.

If you don’t have a hygrometer, you can tell if you have too much humidity if your windows develop condensation. If you cannot control the output of moisture from your humidifier, increase the ventilation in the room to lower the humidity level. It is helpful to purchase a humidifier with a humidistat that allows you to adjust the level of humidity that is being added to the room from your humidifier. Set the humidistat on your humidifier to a level between 30% and 40% for the most comfortable air.

Cool Mist Humidifiers also protect your home’s interior and structure, particularly if you own a newer home. Expensive hardwood is often used for floors, staircases, hand railings, cabinets, trims and moldings inside your house or nursery. Most hardwood is manufactured in a controlled environment that has about 50% humidity. When any of this wood is suddenly exposed to much drier air, the wood can unavoidably shrink or crack.

WHAT SHOULD I CHOOSE?

There are two main types of humidifiers that are used in baby nurseries: warm mist humidifiers and cool mist humidifiers.

o Warm Mist Humidifiers: Colder climates often lend themselves to the use of Warm Mist Humidifiers, since the humidity they emit is heated to some degree. These humidifiers use a heating element to boil the water in the holding tank, which then causes a warm steam to rise into the room, adding moisture.

o Cool Mist Humidifiers: Water is also held in a holding tank in Cool Mist Humidifiers, and absorbs into a wick filter that sits inside the holding tank. When a fan blows air over the wick, the water in the wick evaporates and is released into the air, adding humidity into the room. The released mist is slightly cooled and lends itself well to warmer climates.

The two different humidifier types have several important differences that should be considered when choosing a humidifier for baby’s room.

Most humidifier users and manufacturers will tell you that the best humidifier type is based on personal preference. However, more and more pediatricians are recommending the use of a cool mist humidifier for safety reasons. Since warm mist humidifiers use a heating element to boil the water inside, baby could be accidentally burned. There are several other pros and cons that should be considered before you make your purchase:

ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES:

o Benefits of Cool Mist Humidifiers: As noted above, these units are typically safer for using around baby. These humidifiers can also be easier to clean and manage than warm mist humidifiers. If you plan on using a humidifier during the summer months, cool mist humidifiers are a good option for cooler, more comfortable air. Cool mist humidifiers use very little energy to run, and are better suited to humidify larger rooms than warm mist humidifiers. The amount of white dust produced by humidifiers and emitted into the air is less in cool mist humidifiers than in warm mist humidifiers.

o Drawbacks of Cool Mist Humidifiers: The fan from cool mist humidifier can sometimes cause noise that may or may not be acceptable to baby. If the noise is too loud, it can even hurt baby’s ears. However, some babies do appreciate the white noise to drown out other noises around the house to help them sleep better. Some models do offer different fan speeds to give you some control over the amount of noise.

Cool mist humidifiers require frequent replacement of their filters, which can add up monetarily over time but is necessary to prevent minerals from the water to be blown into the room. Also, the paper-based wick that sits in the water can encourage mold, bacteria and fungi to grow inside the humidifier, and antibacterial cartridges should be purchased and added to the water tank to prevent this from happening. These add-ons need to be changed every couple of months.

o Benefits of Warm Mist Humidifiers: Warm mist humidifiers do not require filters, so there are no filters to be replaced. Also, virtually no noise is produced from warm mist humidifiers, except for the occasional gurgle of water that is being boiled. Because these machines use distilled water, the mist is cleaner and more hygienic, offering additional protection against bacteria and germs.

o Drawbacks of Warm Mist Humidifiers: The heating element within a warm mist humidifier can increase energy costs, but produces a warmer mist that can be nice during the colder months. Keep in mind that the water is boiling, so accidental burning and scalding can pose a threat to babies and toddlers. These humidifiers generally require more cleaning and maintenance than cool mist humidifiers. The moisture from these machines does not cover large areas, so they are most beneficial for smaller rooms.

Here are a few other things to consider when thinking about your humidifier purchase:

o It is a good idea to purchase a humidifier with an automatic shut-off feature that turns the humidifier off when the room reaches the humidity level set by you or when it is empty. This will also keep the motor from burning out.

o Bacteria-free models are offered and are a smart choice that deliver extra protection from bacteria that could cause sickness in your child.

o Some warm mist humidifiers come equipped with a mineral absorption pad that can collect mineral deposits leftover from the heated water so they don’t blow into the room. If the water used in your house has a lot of minerals, this should be a consideration for you.

Thats alot to think about then to just go out and purchase a humidifier, just like anything else do youe research and find the best product for youe family’s needs.

This is a great Water Toys Buying Guide!

Hey Folks the summer is not over quite just yet!!! There are still plenty of time to get in the last bit of warm weather fun and that includes in the back yard with the water toys!!

My all time favorite is the Wigglin Water Sprinkler Kids Outdoor Backyard Water Hose Splash Soaker Toy . Thats a mouth full to say for sure!

Water toys are enjoyed by individuals of all ages and for a variety of purposes. Whether it’s to socialize, learn, engage in a fun way to exercise, or relax, the entertainment and functionality that water toys can provide is endless.
Water Toys for Babies

While babies cannot yet play in the pool, they can certainly enjoy water toys in the bathtub. Toys are an excellent way to encourage infants to learn shapes, patterns, and colors. One example would be water building blocks that change color when placed in the water. These toys also are large enough that babies will not choke on them, and they are small and light enough that they can still be grasped by small hands.

Water Toys for Young Children

When children are young, toys that encourage exploration are ideal. If children are playing in the bathtub, try giving them toys like water flutes. Water flutes provide a fun way to explore the world of music, giving children an opportunity to learn how to create new sounds and songs. For days spent playing in the pool or in the lake, small boats are perfect. This way, children can learn how to control the speed of the item, and they can explore the waters with their new toys. For an interactive game, purchase multiple boats so that each child has a boat of their own.
Then, have the children push these boats to a designated spot; the boat that reaches the spot first is the winner. These activities are not only fun, but they also provide a means of physical exercise. When spending a day at the beach, water toys like a shovel and bucket will encourage children to go out and discover, as well as build, new things. With these water toys, children can wet the sand and make sand castles. They can also dig up interesting rocks or shells and take them home as souvenirs.
Water toys also encourage young children to learn to swim or strengthen their current swimming skills. For example, water noodles are great for both pools or a larger body of water, such as a lake. Children can hold these noodles out in front of them as support while they tread water or kick and splash. They can also place the noodles under their ankles while they learn swim strokes with their arms. For fun, have the kids twist and turn the noodles into different shapes and try to balance
on them.

Water Toys for Older Children and Teenagers

Older children and teenagers enjoy larger, and often inflatable, toys that they can climb around on. These toys can not only provide fun for individuals, but they can also provide an opportunity to improve social skills. For example, attaching a slide to the end of the pool is perfect for any number of people, be it one teenager or the whole neighborhood. If the household does not have a pool, try a slip n slide to use in the yard.

To make the game more complex, incorporate the slide into an obstacle course. Water slides are perfect for those who want to keep cool outdoors during the hot summer months. Inflatable toys are another great option. For example, there are inflatable boats that children and teens can sit in and rock the boat back and forth. There are also inflatable jousting toys, which provide all the equipment needed for hours of fun.

And because these toys are in the water, the landing will be safe for children should one fall off of the toy. Water toys that spark friendly competition are a wonderful way for teens to have fun and interact with one another. A set of dive sticks is an excellent option. As an adult or other teen throws the dive sticks into the pool, the other players can compete to see who can swim to the bottom of the pool and catch the most dive sticks.

Water Toys for Adults

Whether a day at the beach or a day in the pool, many adults look forward to this time of nice scenery and relaxation. Water loungers allow adults to comfortably lay on the water and just enjoy floating about. These are great for taking a nap on or for reading an interesting book. Some water loungers can even fit multiple adults on it for an ideal way to unwind and engage in conversation.

Children are not the only ones who enjoy playing games. Adults who love to play sports should find sports equipment that is water-resistant or sports equipment that is designed for water play. For example, adults can find water footballs and basketballs to spruce up an afternoon in the pool.
Maintaining Water Toys

To ensure that water toys stay in good condition, it is important to clean them. For outdoor water toys, mix bleach with water to create a cleaning solution. Then, soak a sponge in the solution and scrub the toys with the sponge. Afterwards, rinse each toy off with water. It is also necessary to dry toys properly as mold can grow on toys that are put away wet. After the toys are rinsed off with water, either leave them out to air dry or use a towel to dry them off.

Regardless of the drying method used, ensure all toys are completely dry before returning them to storage. For toys that are only used in the bathtub, make a cleaning mixture of vinegar, water, and a little bit of dish soap. After soaking the toys, rinse them off with water and place them out to dry. Make sure the room is properly ventilated so that humidity does not remain in the room, causing difficulty for toys to dry.

Finding Water Toys on eBay

To find water toys for all ages and appropriate for various bodies of water, eBay is an excellent option. When on eBay’s main page, type in “water toys” in the search bar to find a wide selection of toys. Otherwise, if there is a specific item being searched for, such as inflatable toys, type in that term specifically in the search bar. Another way to find water toys is to choose the category Toys and Hobbies from the Category selection. Next, select Outdoor Toys and Structures. From there, narrow down the result listings by choosing Sand & Water Toys.

Underneath this category are many options to choose from, including Squirt Toys, Water Slides, Water Toys, and so forth. Many additional factors can also be taken into consideration when deciding on a purchase. For example, the column on the left of the page will allow buyers to narrow down the selection by choosing an age range, such as 3-4 years or 12-16 years, or by gender. Another item that can be specified is the way in which the buyer would like to buy a particular item. For example, buyers can click Auction to place a dollar amount that they find reasonable to pay for the item.

To avoid the bidding process, one can choose the Buy It Now option and agree to pay the asking price for the toy. Some sellers offer additional perks for their items. For example, it’s possible to choose sellers who only offer expedited shipping or free shipping. If distance or location is important, simply narrow down where the item can be from such as Worldwide or in the U.S. Only. With all purchases, make sure to read the description of the item to ensure that it fits whatever criteria is expected. Additionally, ask for as many pictures as desired to guarantee that the item is in the proper condition that the seller claims it is in.

Conclusion

From bathtubs to pools to lakes, water toys can be used in all types and bodies of water. These toys are a great source of entertainment for people of all ages with varying interests. Whether an infant is learning about colors and shapes, a young child is learning new swimming skills, a teenager is spending more time playing games with friends, or an adult needs a nap around some relaxing scenery, there are water toys to fit every need. And once the desired purpose of a water toy is established, buyers can search on eBay to find the perfect toy that will fit that purpose

Guide for Back pain upper neck treatment and pain management

This guide will cover back pain and upper neck pain treatment. It will give you an overview and then discuss it in terms of chiropractic care. Special thanks to Holistic Wellness Now for sharing their extensive knowledge in this field.

Most people do not realize how much they move their neck during the day until they are unable to do so. The degree of flexibility of the neck, coupled with the fact that it has the least amount of muscular stabilization and it has to support and move your 14 – 16 pound head, means that the neck is very susceptible to injury. You can picture your neck and head much like a bowling ball being held on top of a stick by small, thin, elastic bands. It doesn’t take much force to disrupt that delicate balance.

The spinal cord runs through a space in the vertebrae to send nerve impulses to every part of the body. Between each pair of cervical vertebrae, the spinal cord sends off large bundles of nerves that run down the arms and to some degree, the upper back. This means that if your arm is hurting, it may actually be a problem in the neck! Symptoms in the arms can include numbness, tingling, cold, aching, and “pins and needles”. These symptoms can be confused with carpal tunnel syndrome, a painful condition in the hands that is often found in people who work at computer keyboards or perform other repetitive motion tasks for extended periods.A pain management system such as Empi-Select-Pain-Management-System can help to manage the pain more effectivly.

Problems in the neck can also contribute to headaches, muscle spasms in the shoulders and upper back, ringing in the ears, otitis media (inflammation in the middle ear, often mistaken for an ear infection in children), temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMJ), restricted range of motion and chronic tightness in the neck and upper back.

We associate the neck and upper back together, because most of the muscles that are associated with the neck either attach to, or are located in, the upper back. These muscles include the trapezius, the levator scapulae, the cervical paraspinal muscles and the scalenes, as well as others.

The Causes of Neck and Upper Back Pain

Most neck and upper back pain is caused by a combination of factors, including injury, poor posture, chiropractic subluxations, stress, and in some instances, disc problems.

Injuries

By far, the most common injury to the neck is a whiplash injury. Whiplash is caused by a sudden movement of the head, either backward, forward, or sideways, that results in the damage to the supporting muscles, ligaments and other connective tissues in the neck and upper back. Whether from a car accident, sports, or an accident at work, whiplash injuries need to be taken very seriously. Because symptoms of a whiplash injury can take weeks or months to manifest, it is easy to be fooled into thinking that you are not as injured as you really are. Too often people don’t seek treatment following a car accident or sports injury because they don’t feel hurt. Unfortunately, by the time more serious complications develop, some of the damage from the injury may have become permanent. Numerous studies have shown that years after whiplash victims settle their insurance claims, roughly half of them state that they still suffer with symptoms from their injuries. If you have been in a motor vehicle or any other kind of accident, don’t assume that you escaped injury if you are not currently in pain. Get checked out by a good chiropractor. You can also use a pain management system in the comfort of your own home.

Poor Posture

One of the most common causes of neck pain, and sometimes headaches, is poor posture. It’s easy to get into bad posture habits without even realizing it – even an activity as “innocent” as reading in bed can ultimately lead to pain, headaches, and more serious problems. The basic rule is simple: keep your neck in a “neutral” position whenever possible. Don’t bend or hunch your neck forward for long periods. Also, try not to sit in one position for a long time. If you must sit for an extended period, make sure your posture is good: Keep your head in a neutral position, make sure your back is supported, keep your knees slightly lower than your
hips, and rest your arms if possible.

Subluxations

Subluxations in the neck and upper back area are extremely common due to the high degree of stress associated with holding up your head, coupled with the high degree of instability in the cervical spine. Most subluxations tend to be centered around four areas: the top of the cervical spine where it meets the skull; in the middle of the cervical spine where the mechanical stress from the head is the greatest; in the transition where the cervical and thoracic areas of the spine meet; and in the middle of the thoracic spine where the mechanical stress from the weight of the upper body is greatest. Signs of subluxation include looking in the mirror and seeing your head tilted or one shoulder higher than the other. Often women will notice that their sleeve length is different or that a necklace is hanging off center. If someone looks at you from the side they may notice that your head sits forward from your shoulders. This is known as FHP – forward head posture – and is very common for people who are stooped over their computers all day long. Subluxations are a debt to the body. If they are not taken care of soon after they occur, then they can get much worse over time due to the accumulation of compounding interest.

Stress

When most people become stressed, they unconsciously contract their muscles. In particular, the muscles in their back. This ‘muscle guarding’ is a survival response designed to guard against injury. In today’s world where we are not exposed to physical danger most of the time, muscle guarding still occurs whenever we become emotionally stressed. The areas most affected are the muscles of the neck, upper back and low back.
For most of us, the particular muscle affected by stress is the trapezius muscle, where daily stress usually leads to chronic tightness and the development of trigger points.

The two most effective ways you can reduce the physical effects of stress on your own are to increase your activity level – exercise – and by deep breathing exercises. When you decrease the physical effects of stress, you can substantially reduce the amount of tightness and pain in your upper back and neck.

Disc Herniations

The discs in your cervical spine can herniate or bulge and put pressure on the nerves that exit from the spine through that area. Although cervical discs do not herniate nearly as often as lumbar discs do, they occasionally can herniate, especially when the discs sustain damage from a whiplash injury.

We hope this information is helpful to all those suffering from some sort of cronic pain.

Review of the Seagate BlackArmor NAS 110 1TB NAS Box

I just purchased a Seagate BlackArmor NAS 110 1TB NAS Box and I thought I would give my review on it! I have the Seagate NAS 110 with Firmware Version 1000.1081 (latest) I have to say I’m not impressed with it. It has a very slow transfer speed and frequently dies when transferring 3 to 10GB .avi files. I wanted some security around the share(s) but after a visit to the Seagate support website it seems like flipping everything to Public stabilizes the file transfers.

I’ve done this and still had it puke on transfers. I get a variety of different errors, Path to Deep, Network Name Unavailable, etc. copying from a windows XP box (SP3) to the NAS unit. I added the unit into DNS and am now trying copying with the anti-virus (MS Sec Essentials) turned off, in hopes to slowly identify what is causing the stability issues. Perhaps yet another firmware release will fix these problems.

However, I am concerned that the .avi’s  will be corrupted. Remember folks .. any data you put on this device you better have backed-up on something else as you will LOSE it as your drives or the system circuitry fails. Seagate will not help you with their functions nor do I think they care. They have your money and that’s the bottom line.

BUYER BEWARE on all the Seagate NAS 110; 220; 420; 440’s .. they are all having major issues. The most help you can get is from the support forum ( http://forums.seagate.com/stx/ ) from people like us trying to get our purchases to work.

Pros:
+Fast
+Quiet
+Easy to use and setup
+Well made and designed
+All your needs in one little box
+Access from anywhere via the web

Cons:
-Might be considered expensive (but I don’t think so)
-Not as feature rich as other NAS boxes

Here is Your Complete Guide to Understanding CPU Fan and Heatsink Compatibility

Modern Central Processing Units (CPUs) consume a lot of power, which is converted to heat in the process. However, one of a computer’s worst enemies is heat. Heat can cause severe damage to any electronic component, especially integrated circuits (ICs).

Heat damage is not an issue for smaller electronic components, which do not generate enough heat to cause problems. However, CPUs, northbridge chips, and graphics cards all produce enough heat to destroy themselves if overheated. Early Pentium 1 computers had a serious problem with overheating, especially when used in a warm environment. This led to the installation of heatsinks and fans as standard items on computer CPUs.

The purpose of a heatsink or fan is to remove the heat from the CPU (or other chip) and dissipate it into the air. To do this, the heat first must be transmitted from the CPU to the heatsink. While this might seem like a simple enough proposition, it is not. Air makes a very effective heat insulator, so for the heat to get from the CPU to the heatsink, the heatsink must be installed without any air gaps whatsoever. Even an air gap of a few microns can slow down heat transfer.

Since it is virtually impossible to make a CPU and heatsink that fit together perfectly, a thermal paste or grease is sandwiched between the two. This non-conductive material is designed to fill any air gaps, ensuring the best possible mechanical connection between the two. The better air gaps are eliminated, the better heat flows out of the CPU and into the heatsink.

Top 6 of the best Anti-Theft Locks for laptops

Laptop computers make life easier for those who are constantly on the go or who have to travel frequently to various locations. Some people use computers to store important business information that may contain sensitive data. While there are software methods to password protect files and the computer itself, these methods are also prone to software hacks, which have proven quite easy for some.

A further layer of security for those who travel with sensitive data is an anti-theft lock. A physical lock may deter thieves. Finding the right anti-theft lock is important, so computer owners need to take the time to carefully shop for the right anti-theft lock.
